Smudge Style at London Fashion Week

February 24th, 2012

We hit the ground running last week between shows to see and also others that I worked. Needless to say it was pretty hectic but of course super fun. Day one started with the very first show of the week 9am at Somerset House for Antoni & Alison. The show featured beautiful graphic printed silk dresses. The girls all wore cropped black wigs with winged out smoky eyes, peach cheeks, and pale lips. With our first show complete for the day it was off to get our press passes and a quick tour of the designers exhibit at Somerset House. I cannot say enough how amazing the design talent is in London there really is nothing like it.

Lisa went to Jasper Conran while I worked backstage at Aquascutum. I think the highlight of the week was the Temperley show. Absolutely stunning! The Russian doll themed looks and the high shine peach cheeks was spectacular set against the opulent backdrop of One Great George Place.

Sunday I worked JW Anderson and the amazing Jonathan Saunders shows and that evening we sipped champagne before watching Kristian Aadenvik . The girls wore super sleek hair smoky eyes and pale mouths and the entire show was done with barley any lighting. Feathers, fur and gold basically sums up the clothing.

Monday Lisa jetted off to see Mark Fast, and in the process was photographed by Star magazine for her fab style, and celeb spotted Mr West front row. I was backstage at Giles which was completely breath taking.

By Tuesday we were done and had the most appropriate finish to the week at the Berkeley hotel Pret-a-Portea.

What an amazing week it’s been here in London. We have seen some fabulous shows with stunning clothes, and equally stunning makeup and hair.

Sneak Preview: New York Fashion Week FW12

February 15th, 2012

Autumn is looking pretty good so far. I love the eyes at Jason Wu and Donna Karan, and the lips at Thakoon. I’m reminded of my own signature makeup look at Marc Jacobs–bottom liner! My favourite.

60′s Mod

February 10th, 2012

The mod look was a bit of a micro trend for AW11. Anna Sui and Gianfranco Ferre showed banana lines through the crease with liquid eyeliner, and painted on lashes–straight from the 60′s. While this might be a bit too of the decade to wear, the heavy eyeliner and pale lip from the D&G show captures the essence of the look in a modern way.

What to Wear to Fashion Week

February 8th, 2012

Fashion week attire can be a bit of a challenge. Going from front row to backstage to parties and press events you need major style and versatility.  As for makeup I tend to stick to my faithful standbys–bright lips and neutral eyes or the reverse, dark eyes and nude lips. A compact is essential to check your face throughout your busy day, and when all else fails throw on big sunglasses.

Transition to Spring: The New Neutral Makeup

February 2nd, 2012

It’s freezing in London. The sun is out though so a fresh, tonal, somewhat spring look definitely works right now. These shows are classic examples of the flawless looks that graced the runways from New York to Paris. Immaculate skin, separated lashes, boyish brows, and a paled out mouth are required.

Couture Collections SS12

January 27th, 2012

The couture shows in Paris this week were stunning. Most of the drama was in the design, while the makeup was for the most part pretty understated. For me it was all about Versace. Fierce ponytails, bronze smoky eyes, and pale pouts. Head to toe glamour like only Donatella can do.

Get the Look: Louis Vuitton 2012

January 25th, 2012

Without a doubt the Louis Vuitton show for SS12 had to be one of the prettiest of the entire season. Everything from the sorbet shades, to the giant carousel, the headbands and umbrellas, to the gorgeous Pat McGrath designed makeup look.

It goes without saying that you cannot achieve the makeup look without some major fluttery lashes. The density of the lashes is important too, so you are going to need more than one pair. You could probably achieve a wearable version with just two sets, though I would be inclined to got for three. A long not overly thick pair, and a shorter more dense pair will stack nicely together. If you go for three sets I’d do two pairs of long and one thick.

A glowy complexion from head to toe is also required. Apply MAC Strobe Cream underneath an illuminating foundation. Mix strobe cream into body moisturizer so arms and legs have a similar effect.

Transition to Spring: Wet Hair

January 18th, 2012

As we look forward to the new season, wet look hair continues to be a runway trend. If you haven’t tried this look for Fall then get yourself a spray bottle for a smooth transition into Spring.

Work It Out

January 13th, 2012

The inspiration for todays post comes from a growing realization that simply walking fast to work, is probably not going to cause any notable weight loss. A proper exercise routine is the only real solution, however I’m probably more interested in what I should look like for said workout than actually doing any physical exercise!

H&M Versace Resort 2012

December 20th, 2011

For those of you fortunate enough to go somewhere hot this winter, the H&M Versace resort collection will provide a fun poolside look. Featuring summery berries and butterflies in a lavender and white palette this collection is going to go quick. Unfortunately for those of us in Canada or the US we will not be able to purchase this as it is only available online in select European countries.

Glitter and Glam

December 15th, 2011

We love some shimmer and sequins to take your outfit from drab to fab. The same can be said with your makeup. A combination of matte and glitter makes for the perfect face. Too much sparkle and you will look like a disco ball so decide which feature you want to stand out and add some shine. My new fave eye look on myself right now, is a dark matte eyelid in either grey, black or chocolate brown. Then as lower liner I’ve been using a gold large frost particle eyeshadow. Then I rim my water line with a jet black pencil.

Night Out Brights

December 9th, 2011

If you’re looking for something new to wear this season, go for the bold brights. Whether you wear it on just your face or nails or an entire outfit, it will be sure to brighten your night. Pair it with a contrasting bright accessory for maximum pop.

Chanel Pre-Fall 2012

December 8th, 2011

The Indian themed pre-fall Chanel show was all about the dark eye. The almond shape, intensity on the lids, and the blended outer edges are very important, false lashes add extra drama to the eyes. The eyebrows and lips were left natural, cheeks are softly sculpted. The twisted hair and ornate headdresses are stunning, and pull the entire look together.

Runway Nails AW11

December 6th, 2011

There were plenty of natural nails on the runway for fall winter 2011 but at Nina Ricci, Rodarte, and both Chanel and Valentino Couture we saw that short and painted completed the look. The deep dark navy at Chanel Couture is my favourite–less intense than black and more unexpected than a vampy maroon. The shape at all 4 of the shows was leaning more towards square then my preference which is always oval.

4 Looks for a Night Out

December 2nd, 2011

These 4 looks are key elements to look fabulous for a night out. They work well alone or in conjunction with one another. False lashes or loads of mascara instantly make your eyes look bigger. Sculpted cheeks bring added dimension to the face, which is essential for looking your best in low lit rooms and for taking photos. Dark lips or crimson lips are obviously a huge trend this season, and always look glamorous. A vampy manicure will complete any party outfit.

Flushed Winter Cheeks

December 1st, 2011

Get the look this A/W11 season of pretty flushed cheeks. Seen at Marc Jacobs, Oscar, and Prada this is a look that can be best achieved with a cream or gel blush, for a translucent look on the face. Try a shade that is pink or rosy for fair skin, and for deeper skin tones a wine or plum shade will give you the same effect. Apply the blush on the apples of the cheeks not too close to the nose. A buffing brush works well in a circular motion. Or use your finger tips in a patting motion for a really blended look.

Fantastic Fur

November 25th, 2011

As soon as the temperature drops the only way to stay warm, and look chic is fur. While I do tend towards the faux variety, I have to say I am not opposed to the real thing. When you have an amazing fur coat everything else you wear suddenly looks great. Something as simple as a good pair of jeans, a white t-shirt, and stilettos can be elevated to a higher status just by adding a fur.

Since fur has a sense of luxury and glamour to it your makeup can follow suit. Thick cat eyeliner or a smoky eye worn with a statement lip, and luminous skin is definitely the way to go.

Winter Whites

November 17th, 2011

No white after Labour day no longer applies, because there really is nothing chicer than winter white. As seen at YSL, Burberry, and Stella McCartney the white trend is a must-have for the season. Your makeup palette can be anything you want it to be. It just depends what you want to stand out more–your outfit or your makeup look. I recommend highlighting the upper cheekbones with a glowy powder, define eyes with a bit of black eyeshadow smudged along the lash line, and finish it off with a beige lip.
