Fall 2011 Campaigns

August 11th, 2011

These are some of the hottest fall campaigns. I’m loving the makeup–tons of sculpting, pulled out eye shadow shapes, and  strong ruby lips, full on brows or no brows, now these are the things autumn is made of.

Spring Campaigns 2011

January 10th, 2011

I’m eagerly anticipating Spring. I’m completely over the freezing cold temperatures of Winter. My cold weather wardrobe is no longer exciting. Based on what we see at Louis, Miu Miu, Tom Ford, and Gucci the top priority for Spring make up bags will be red lipstick, gloss and nail polish. The new Spring campaigns mean the countdown is on to balmy weather, those Tom Ford sunglasses, and a brand new sweater-less outfits!

Lara Stone for Calvin Klein

June 15th, 2010

I’m sort of obsessed with Lara Stone. As are most people in the industry, so it’s not entirely surprising that Lara is the face of not one but three, branches of the Calvin Klein brand. The brow-less blonde looks stunning in every image. From contoured and sleek in Calvin Klein Collection, laid back and young in Calvin Klein Jeans, and showing off her famous mouth wearing red lips for CK. Love it!

Bottega Veneta Resort 2011

June 2nd, 2010

Resort collections always make we want to pack for a glamorous trip. On said trip I would definitely wear the clothes and make up shown at Bottega Veneta. The make up touched on two of our favourite looks for SS10-the bleached brow and soft brown eyes. Perfect understated chic.

Soft Brows Without the Bleach

April 6th, 2010

I’m obsessed with bleached eyebrows. I’ve been intrigued by them for awhile, and would actually like to lighten my own a couple of shades. I realize the majority of people are not going to go to such extremes, but it happens to be a fixture on the runway this season and last. So I recommend keeping your brows soft rather than heavily defining with shadow or brow pencil. Basically you only need to fill in the gaps in your brows. If you have dark hair try using a brow gel that’s tinted lighter than your natural brow colour.

Remember taking away the brows draws more attention to your eyes, so make sure to play them up.

Spring Ad Campaigns

January 26th, 2010

If you are like me then you are so ready for the weather to change so we can get into the new season. I love seeing all the new ad campaigns because they set the tone for the season for make up, hair and fashion trends. Above are some of my favourites for Spring/Summer 2010. Armani showed  a very blunt fringe and sculpted cheekbones. Sonia Rykiel, Prada and St. John all showcased strong bright lips in different textures.  As a fan of the bleached brow trend, and high shine orangey red lips I particularly like the Prada campaign. Brows were also the stand out feature on Longchamp’s ad. Patent black highly arched suit Sasha’s already severe features. Alexander McQueen never fails to set the bar for innovation. Those shoes have been the most talked about foot wear of the Spring season. The snakes are unbelievable. This is the most visually stimulating ad I’ve seen in a while.

Bleached Brows

November 16th, 2009

Bleached Brows

There was an absence of brows on the Fall runways. Shows like Givenchy, Giorgio Armani, and Matthew Williamson featured a make up look that did not require eyebrows. What I like about this look is that it’s ethereal and edgy all at the same time. Now executing this no brow look, can make for a slightly more chaotic backstage environment, which was the case at Jonathan Saunders Spring show. All the girls that showed up with their natural brows, had to then be bleached out. After the show about 15 models swarmed the make up team as we mixed up dye to put their brows back to the way they were! Based on that, I think this is one trend that will remain on the runway.

Sneak Preview: London Fashion Week SS/10

September 25th, 2009

Sneak Preview: London Fashion Week

I have just returned from my favourite city that was celebrating twenty five years of fashion week-London was amazing! In contrast to New York, London is known for it’s edgier more hard hitting street style both on and off the runway. The make up for Spring Summer 2010 was not really about looking tan and perfect but more about creating a statement. Burberry has been revived from it’s stuffy old English history to be youthful and fresh. At Jonathan Saunders we perfected and slightly paled out the skin so the models looked almost waxy. Virtually every girl had her eyebrows bleached to non existence. Lips were toned down with concealer except the very inner part which had bright red and deep currant coloured liners applied to the mouth, very “new moon” style. What’s a London runway without colour? Marios Schwab, Luella, and Richard Nicholl had variations on colour from soft to bright. Erdem gave us long lush lashes. Now Milan is in full swing get ready for heavy doses of glamour.
