Winter Whites

November 17th, 2011

No white after Labour day no longer applies, because there really is nothing chicer than winter white. As seen at YSL, Burberry, and Stella McCartney the white trend is a must-have for the season. Your makeup palette can be anything you want it to be. It just depends what you want to stand out more–your outfit or your makeup look. I recommend highlighting the upper cheekbones with a glowy powder, define eyes with a bit of black eyeshadow smudged along the lash line, and finish it off with a beige lip.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

June 20th, 2011

The gorgeous model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, up until recently, was probably best known for her contracts with Victoria’s Secret and Burberry. Like many models, she is taking her trademark pillowy lips, enviable bone structure, and extra long legs, and transitioning into acting. Rosie hits the big screen this summer in Transformers.

Model of the Moment: Edie Campbell

April 25th, 2011

British model Edie Campbell was discovered back in 2006 by Lucinda Chambers, editor of Vogue UK. That same year at the age of 14, Edie with her Rapunzel long locks, was posing beside Kate Moss in Burberry’s campaign. I love her young innocent look–she’s cute but cool all at the same time. Her resume is not long but it is strong, with more editorials and campaigns than runway. She’s walked for Chanel, Sonia Rykiel, Paul Smith, and Mark Fast. Campaigns include Stella McCartney for Adidas, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Anya Hindmarch, and Burberry. As well as editorial’s for Italian Vogue, British Vogue, and i-D. The May issue of Numero China shows a Gucci clad Edie looking very chic.

Hair Trend: Centre Part

March 16th, 2011

The centre part is having a moment this Spring. Seen at quite a few shows across the fashion capitals, this is a super easy trend to update your look with. This early 70′s look of course works when your hair is down, but try it when your hair is pulled back too, like at Calvin Klein and Nina Ricci.

Sneak Preview: London Fashion Week AW11

March 1st, 2011

London seemed to be having a bit of a love affair with the gloss for Fall. Christpher Kane, Jonathan Saunders, and Giles all showed various degrees of glowy skin, which I love. Erdem and David Koma had a very structured eye paired with a pale mouth. Brows were nice and full at Burberry, Aquascutum, and Mary Katrantzou. My new fave Brit designer Holly Fulton, kept the focus on the mouth with a glossy blackened plum colour. All in all London gave us a very lovely looking AW11.

Makeup Artist: Charlotte Tilbury

February 10th, 2011

British make up artist Charlotte Tilbury’s portfolio is one fabulous image after another. As one of the most sort after artists for all 4 fashion weeks, when she’s backstage she makes everything she does look so effortless. Tilbury works quickly with her fingers and brushes. The end result is always gorgeous. Tilbury has designed makeup for tons of shows like Chloe, Temperley, and Victoria Beckham. Her work for UK and Italian Vogue has been among some of my favourite. Including the recent Tom Ford issue of Paris Vogue which we featured on Smudge.

Front Row at London, Milan & Paris Fashion Week

October 12th, 2010

Wearing the current collection and sitting front row at some of the best shows of the season, is definitely a perk to being an actress. Olivia Palermo NYC socialite, and The City reality star, managed to make it to all 4 cities. I saw her at Giambattista Valli in Paris looking totally flawless and gorgeous. My favourite look was Rachel Bilson at Roberto Cavalli’s 40th anniversary party in Paris. That dress is just amazing. Now that the Spring shows are complete, and the excitement has died down it’s back to Fall 2010-yesterday was the first day I actually had to wear a sweater.

Sneak Preview: London S/S 11

September 27th, 2010

Spring skin is perfectly dewy and flawless pretty much across the board. A few bright lips here and there seems to be a continuation from last spring’s trend. It wouldn’t be London without something crazy-massive amounts of glitter at Giles! So fabulous.

Makeup Artist: Wendy Rowe

July 30th, 2010

Wendy Rowe British makeup artist does my kind of make up. Hot, smoky, gorgeous. With countless editorials  and covers in publications like Vogue and Numero, to backstage at shows like Burberry, and Rachel Roy, Rowe does some seriously brilliant make up.

In Milan a few years ago she was having an electrical tape moment. As in she hand cut pieces of black rubber like tape, into geometric shapes. Then hand positioned them on the girls eyes, sort of like an extension of their liquid eyeliner. I adore one of her more recent editorials featured in the August issue of Vogue Nippon (top right, 2nd row right) glam 70′s eyes, strong contouring, and the velvet red lip-stunning.

Burberry Beauty

July 16th, 2010

The Burberry Beauty collection is as chic and sophisticated as it’s clothing line. Starting with the beautiful packaging with signature Burberry check, to the lipstick cases that close magnetically. After trying the majority of the line, I found the foundation, powder, eyeshadow, and gloss to be quite sheer. Everything feels very smooth and silky thanks to the silicones, and glides on for effortless application. Makeup Artist Wendy Rowe, responsible for the make up direction at Burberry’s runway makeup for the past nine years, says the line is “effortless and relaxed, but sophisticated.”

I purchased the gloss in nude beige No.9. It is sheer and very smooth, not at all sticky. Oils and ceramides that leave the lips hydrated, supple and naturally plumped. The shadows come in a variety of neutrals as well as some blues and purples inspired by England’s stormy weather. I picked up the eyeshadow in gold trench No.4 the colour is a pretty golden beige and it looks great on my lids or as a highlight colour.

The lipsticks come in a nice range of easy to wear colours from nude tones to darker reds. It’s very light on the lips and quite moisturizing while leaving just the right amount of pigment on the lips. Lisa got the No.3 cameo pink which is a light-medium warm pink colour.

Update: (From Lisa) After wearing this for a while I decided that I don’t love the smell of the lipstick and foundation. I find that a lot of the products smell like perfume — maybe even baby powder which is a bit off putting. But if you’re okay with the smell then its a pretty nice lipstick. Leah has been using the lipgloss and it has no smell.

Front Row at Fashion Week

October 8th, 2009

Celebrities at Fashion Week

As Fashion month comes to an end we thought we’d look back at some of the best dressed celebs that sat front row. If we were to give an award for most innovative outfits, hair and make up it would have to go to Rhianna. She might as well have been on the runway because she represented each show she went to so impeccably. This season saw an influx of young hollywood attending the shows and not just in New York, where Lauren Conrad was seen at 3.1 Philip Lim. With the exception of MK Olsen, who with her sister can always be spotted front row in Paris. Leighton Meester was at Louis Vuitton, Jessica Stroup at Vivienne Westwood, and Rachel Bilson at Ferragamo. Victoria Beckham looked perfectly posh at Burberry London compared to the fresh new face of the brand Emma Watson. For the rest of us we’re going to have to wait until next year to get our hands on the Spring trends, and rewind back to AW 09.

Sneak Preview: London Fashion Week

I have just returned from my favourite city that was celebrating twenty five years of fashion week-London was amazing! In contrast to New York, London is known for it’s edgier more hard hitting street style both on and off the runway. The make up for Spring Summer 2010 was not really about looking tan and perfect but more about creating a statement. Burberry has been revived from it’s stuffy old English history to be youthful and fresh. At Jonathan Saunders we perfected and slightly paled out the skin so the models looked almost waxy. Virtually every girl had her eyebrows bleached to non existence. Lips were toned down with concealer except the very inner part which had bright red and deep currant coloured liners applied to the mouth, very “new moon” style. What’s a London runway without colour? Marios Schwab, Luella, and Richard Nicholl had variations on colour from soft to bright. Erdem gave us long lush lashes. Now Milan is in full swing get ready for heavy doses of glamour.
