January Jones for W Magazine

April 19th, 2011

I never use this adjective because it’s been highly over used, but in this particular case I can’t help myself–January Jones looks fierce! The team responsible for the amazing shoot is made up of makeup artist Jeanine Lobell, hair by Oribe Salon Miami Beach, styled by Lori Goldstein and photographed by Craig McDean.

Jones used to model before she started acting, which is of course not a big surprise based on her looks and height. Lately the two worlds are coming together. As the face of Versace’s SS11 campaign, and in the upcoming X Men movie. Model or actress, she does both exceptionally well.

Nicole Richie for The Block Magazine

March 30th, 2011

Nicole Richie looks gorgeous in this new spread for The Block magazine. I’m loving her wavy hair and wine coloured lips, against a glowing complexion. The styling is great too. Richie is posing in SS 11 Giambattista, Marchesa, Prada, and Zac Posen.

Look We Love: Kate Bosworth

March 17th, 2011

What I like about Kate Bosworth besides her mismatched irises, is her easy, cool, California style. This girl know’s her fashion when it comes to the red carpet, but on a day to day basis she’s keeps her look effortless and laid-back. Never one to pile on the makeup, Bosworth tends to keep it simple. Groomed eyebrows, a bit of mascara, and radiant skin best describes her makeup look.

Front Row at Paris Fashion Week

March 10th, 2011

Fashion month has come to an end with Paris. While there weren’t many hollywood celebs for the beginning of PFW, by the end lots were showing up front row. Nicole Richie at Givenchy in her fitted leather dress, and tight top knot was one of my favorite looks. Followed by Emma Roberts blue feathers at Louis Vuitton. On Monday we’ll recap the makeup from the Paris shows.

Oscars 2011

February 28th, 2011

Unfortunately I missed the Oscars last night. I have them recorded but it’s just not the same. From what I can see these were probably the best looking ladies of the evening. However, not all got it right from head to toe.

For example Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture was quite spectacular. Her hair and make up were not. Imagine how amazing she would have been if the entire look was pulled together! Scarlett’s dress and make up were good, but the hair was lacking. Jennifer Lawrence had beautiful hair and make up, and the Calvin Klein Collection dress was nice but could have been a bit more exciting. Mila Kunis, Anne Hathaway, and Natalie Portman were probably the best for overall look.

What do you think?

Look We Love: Jennifer Lawrence

January 26th, 2011

I like this girl. She’s a very talented actress, and for now that seems to be her focus. As in no crazy escapades splashed across the tabloids. In photo shoots she looks super hot. It’s not hard to see why she was scouted by a modelling agency but chose to pursue acting instead. On the red carpet Lawrence looks fashion forward, and cool. Nominated for a Golden Globe earlier this month, and as was announced yesterday, an Oscar nomination too. I wonder what Hollywood’s new “it” girl will look like on Oscar night?

Look We Love: Emma Stone

January 12th, 2011

Actress Emma Stone is considered “one to watch” as far as her status in Hollywood is concerned. From what we’ve seen she knows how to work the red carpet. Making a recent departure from her signature auburn locks, she’s currently blonde for her role in Spiderman. Stone usually goes for a defined eyeliner look that intensifies her green eyes, and a light lip. I’m looking forward to see how the nominated actress looks at Sunday’s Golden Globes. Pretty sure she won’t disappoint!

Best Makeup and Style 2010

December 23rd, 2010

Throughout the year certain celebs caught our eye on the red carpet. These six stood out for both their makeup and style.

Lea Michele made her mark with the hit show Glee, and started to become a fave on the red carpet too. Often wearing neutral eyes and lips. When she goes for a bright lip it really makes a great statement.

Blake Lively never disappoints. She has everything going for her: good hair, pretty face, fab body. Throw her in anything and it looks good. Often seen in Chanel, one of her best moments was the grey and brown Lanvin number she wore. Topped off with super sleek hair, and terra-cotta lips. A winning look.

Drew may not have had as many shining moments on the red carpet this year. With the exception of the Golden Globes. What Drew has going for her is her fabulous hair. We love her two tone grunge look. Definitely one of the best colors of 2010.

Kim Kardashian upped her fashion game over the past year. Her stylist Monica Rose has been outfitting her in a lot of high end ensembles. Not one to wear minimal makeup and hair, my favorite looks on Kim are when she pulls it back a bit. I like her hair wavy instead of curls. When it comes to smokey eyes and light lips no one does it better.

Diane Kruger owns the classy look. She has more hits than misses when it comes to special events. Her neutral eyes and lip combo works, because often it’s the dress that stands out.

Although not making lots of appearances this year, Jessica Alba certainly made the most of the ones she did. Always flawless hair and makeup, and dresses that wow.

American Music Awards 2010

November 22nd, 2010

These ladies represent our top picks from last nights AMA’s. I loved Jessica Alba’s over all look. Sleek hair, perfect brows, structured eye make up, and fitted black dress, it all worked seamlessly. As I’ve mentioned before Taylor Swift looks 100% better without the curls. Straight hair with long bangs is a super sexy look. I’m becoming quite a Katy Perry fan these days. Her great big eyes, and glowy cheeks were a winning combination last night. Keri Hilson’s hair and makeup was flawless. Miley’s neutral make up and polished hair was a softer look than usual. As much as I liked Rihanna’s makeup and dress, I’m over the red hair, especially this new curly version!

Who was your favourite at the AMA’s?

Look we love: Rihanna

November 2nd, 2010

Rihanna’s look goes from really soft and pretty to bold, and edgy. This is a girl that oozes style, and is not in the least bit afraid to stand out. Make up artist Mylah Morales does an amazing job with Rihanna’s look. Which I suppose is not too difficult when you’re working with someone who can pile on the makeup, or pare it right down and still look stunning. Always gorgeous skin, lots of lashes to draw attention to her green eyes, and strong or subtle lips, either way works.

2009 MTV EMAs

2009 MTV EMAs

The 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards brought out quite a few familiar faces. Katy Perry and Leona Lewis looked picture perfect on the red carpet. Both ladies played up their eyes by wearing stacks of lashes, always a wise choice for instant glamour. I also enjoy the white eyeliner in Leona’s water line it makes her eyes appear big and bright.

2009 Hollywood Awards

October 30th, 2009

2009 Hollywood Awards

In Hollywood it seems like another day, another awards show. Kate Beckinsale and Diane Kruger looked effortlessly beautiful at the 2009 Hollywood Awards. Both actresses opted for a red carpet stand by — neutral coloured eyes with a subtle shimmer, and natural pink lips.

Tip of the Day: Fuller Lips

August 19th, 2009

VictoriaApply a sheer layer of gloss to the very edge of the upper lip.  The gloss, unlike a pencil will reflect the light and ultimately make lips look fuller.

How to create smoky, sultry eyes

August 11th, 2009

Kohl eye liner is centuries old and far from a trend but an industry standard.  The best kohls are creamy enough to smudge out to create a smoky eyeliner, but can also achieve a perfectly defined line too. Keep the line tight to the lash line for a slightly understated look, or blend it out towards the crease of the eye for more drama.  The more you smudge the line the smokier it gets.  The best tools to use are medium density brushes that can work the kohl until there are no hard edges.  The key to a perfect smoky eye is whatever you do on the top do on the bottom. Here’s how to get the look in a few quick steps:

step1

1. Line the entire eye with the kohl top and bottom.

step2

2. Using a pencil brush smudge over the liner until the line dissipates.

step3

3. Apply a dark shadow on top of the smudgy liner to create more intensity and longer wear.

step4

4. Blend the shadow out with a soft haired brush so there are no hard lines.

step5

5. Apply the kohl to the top and bottom water line to completely encase the eye.

step6

6. Highlight the brow bone and finish with mascara.

Effortless EyeBrows

July 14th, 2009

Print

The full brow is by far the most flattering shape for the face. For many seasons now the girls hit the runways with well groomed, beautifully arched eyebrows. Even Richard Nicoll SS09 was all about bountiful brows. So it’s pretty safe to say that this is standard procedure and not just a fleeting trend.

When it comes to perfecting your own brows think Brooke Shields not Pam Anderson! There are many ways to create a fuller brow — the most common is to use an eyebrow pencil. A natural look can also be achieved using an angled brush and an eyebrow powder or eyeshadow in a colour that is a couple of shades lighter than your hair colour. Once you have brushed the colour on your brows, try smoothing your brows with an eyelash brush like MAC 204. Not only does this groom the brows but it can also help lighten up the colour if you applied the shadow a bit heavy. Also try Make Up For Ever’s Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector. It’s perfect for anyone who’s had half a brow missing by the end of the day! For those of you fortunate enough to have naturally full eyebrows all you need is a clear brow gel to keep them in place all day long.

Glow On

June 29th, 2009

glowyskin

Skin that looks healthy, radiant, and gorgeous is not just reserved for models, and celebs, but rather it is an absolute must have for every woman. Almost every woman I meet over thirty, covets glowy skin because glowy skin is youthful and who doesn’t want to look young?

Expert Tips:

1.   Prep the skin with a hydrating mist like MAC Fix+ before applying moisturizer. This boosts the skins moisture level and creates an instant glow.

2.  For an all over glow mix a few drops of  an illuminating  product into your liquid foundation. Try Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer.

3.  Highlight the high planes (tops of cheek bones, apples of the cheek, and brow bone) by gently tapping on a cream shadow. Or use a powder that has iridescence and apply with a soft brush.

The Black Eye for SS 09

June 17th, 2009

It comes around every season. Can be seen on runways in all four of the fashion capitals. It’s the smoky eye. This seasons adaptation is imprecise, melted, and pillow smudged. Always dark, sooty with a lived in look. At Cavalli the melted look was achieved by applying Nars Cream Eyeshadow in Zardoz over the top of a pencil. Waxy kohl liners are perfect for recreating a slightly imperfect look. Backstage at Temperley London we used MAC Smolder Eye Kohl, and cream based shadows to give the girls an edgy yet glam look. Finish the look with flawless skin and a beige nude lip as seen on Mary Kate Olsen. This is your recipe for a hot summer look!

Bright Lips Big Colour

June 5th, 2009

Print

This season the brighter the better whether it be make up or fashion. We’re seeing a big trend towards stand out shades. When it comes to make up the bright lip is quite frankly the quickest way to get you from zero to wow. A few favourite products to precisely accomplish this look are Nars Lipliner Pencil in Funny Face, Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Provocative, and MAC Vegas Volt Lipstick. To incorporate this trend when getting dressed, keep it looking 2009 as opposed to 1989 with a single neon item. The McQueen shoes are a definite must!

Award Season 2009

May 6th, 2009

awardshowsThis award season we saw Hollywood glamour at its best. The most important trends were front and centre: flawless skin, long lashes, defined eyes, and although the red lip made a cameo, the neutral lip ruled the red carpet. Red carpet make up focuses on making women look beautiful by accentuating their best features. There are three classic make up looks: neutral eyes neutral lips-seen on Kate, Eva, Angelina, Beyonce, and Jennifer. Neutral eye bold lips-seen on Christina, and smoky eye neutral lip-seen on Sarah Jessica, Freida, and  Natalie.
