February 3rd, 2012

These last few months of winter always drag, and with the chilly temperatures sticking around here a few tips to keep your skin looking and feel it’s best.

1. To remedy dry itchy skin use a gentle cream body wash that won’t strip your skins natural moisture.

2. Slough off dead skin on arms and legs with a body scrub

3. Finish with a rich body cream that contains super moisturizers like shea butter, and jojoba. Apply to damp skin to lock in the moisture.

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream

January 23rd, 2012

As is always the case for most of the year my hands are very dry, and my cuticles are even worse. I recently came across Yu-Be moisturizer, even though it’s been around for about fifty years! It contains lots of ingredients that take care of dry and irritated skin anywhere on the body. I’ve been using it on my hands and rubbing it into my cuticles–total life saver during the winter months.

Tip of the day: Moisturized Skin

July 28th, 2011

Get silky smooth skin that never looks dry by adding a few drops of oil into your body lotion. I love the Ultra Glow Body Moisturizing Oil. It’s very inexpensive, and gives your lotion the extra boost to not only hydrate but leaves skin with a sexy sheen.

Tom Ford and Jo Malone Body Oil

April 28th, 2011

As a dry skinned person (everywhere except my face) I love body oil. These two new ones are quite fabulous. The Tom Ford Neroli Portofino line, includes a body oil infused with the scent of the fragrance. It contains citrus oils, floral and amber notes. For an oil it’s quite lightweight but still hydrating. The best part is it leaves the skin with a radiant glow.

Jo Malone’s English Pear and Freesia dry oil is delicately scented and leaves no trace of oil on the skin at all. It absorbs quickly and adds moisture to dry skin.

Both are lovely but when it comes down to it I’m all about the glow. I prefer an oil that leaves a sheen on the skin. Of the two I chose the Tom Ford version.

Winter Casual

November 18th, 2010

Winter is here and while we’re bundling up in shearling parkas and cashmere cardi’s, there’s no need to pile on the makeup. A few key products are all that’s required to look done but not overdone. Obviously a good dose of moisturizer is required to prevent dry or dehydrated skin during cooler temperatures. Keeping hydration as a theme I love to use creamy blush on the cheeks. Skin will look moist and glowy and feel good too. Tinted lip balm is a convenient alternative to gloss, for adding colour and locking in moisture. Smudge some dark brown eyeliner around the eyes, and you’re ready for the cold outdoors with a hint of colour and a bit of a glow—hot!

Moisturize your feet that means heels, and the cuticles on your toes. Make sure to do it every night before going to sleep to keep your feet looking sandal ready. Use a salve like Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Or for on the go cuticle touch ups use Sephora’s Cuticle Care Pen.

Loose vs Pressed Powder

May 19th, 2010

Powder is used as a finishing product to set foundation or concealer, and to absorb oil. In some cases powder can be used alone to enhance your complexion. When it comes to choosing between loose or pressed a lot of times convenience can be the deciding factor. Obviously if you need to carry powder with you, then pressed will be a better choice.

The advantage of loose powder is that it’s often lighter weight especially when applied with a brush. So for mature skin or dry skin that requires minimal powder loose is a good way to go. The opposite can be true of pressed powder. When applied liberally with a powder puff you can get quite a bit of coverage and a very matte look. Both versions can be applied with a brush or a powder puff depending on the look you want to achieve. A brush will apply less and a puff will apply more.

Expert Tip: Before powdering very oily skin remove excess oil by pressing a tissue or blotting paper to the face, and then finish with powder.

Autumn is in full swing, the weather is cooler and the clocks went back. As if these weren’t big enough indicators, I need only look down at my hands to notice that to my dismay, my dry skin has returned. The good news is dry hands are easily rectified with Aveda’s Hand Relief. This is one of my “must have” products of the season. The emollient rich formula penetrates dry skin leaving your hands feeling extremely smooth and soft. For anyone who has allergies or a sensitivity to smell you’ll find the scent is very subtle. For extra dry hands apply liberally before going to bed and cover hands with cotton gloves. You will wake up with softest hands ever!

What’s so great about EA 8 hour cream? It’s jam packed with super moisturizing ingredients like petrolatum and vitamin E. This original skin protectant dates way back to the 1930’s and is still a staple in any savvy make up artists kit. The emollient texture leaves dry skin anywhere on the face or body feeling soothed and hydrated.
