Couture Collections SS12

January 27th, 2012

The couture shows in Paris this week were stunning. Most of the drama was in the design, while the makeup was for the most part pretty understated. For me it was all about Versace. Fierce ponytails, bronze smoky eyes, and pale pouts. Head to toe glamour like only Donatella can do.

Oscars 2011

February 28th, 2011

Unfortunately I missed the Oscars last night. I have them recorded but it’s just not the same. From what I can see these were probably the best looking ladies of the evening. However, not all got it right from head to toe.

For example Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture was quite spectacular. Her hair and make up were not. Imagine how amazing she would have been if the entire look was pulled together! Scarlett’s dress and make up were good, but the hair was lacking. Jennifer Lawrence had beautiful hair and make up, and the Calvin Klein Collection dress was nice but could have been a bit more exciting. Mila Kunis, Anne Hathaway, and Natalie Portman were probably the best for overall look.

What do you think?

Model of the Moment: Marike Le Roux

July 22nd, 2010

South African born Marike Le Roux took her first steps on the runway during New York Fashion Week September 2009. She has a very appealing sort of look that can transform from innocent to seductive. Shortly after her runway debut Le Roux became the face of Sonia Rykiel for their Spring 2010 campaign. Other career highlights include Elie Saab Couture in Paris and closing the Jeremy Scott show last fashion week in New York. A newcomer to the industry she is one to watch.

Haute Couture 2009

December 11th, 2009

The most recent couture shows happened in Paris in July. Although the ready to wear shows are always at the forefront of our minds, couture this season had some very noteworthy looks. The mask look showed up at both Elie Saab and Givenchy. But the blending on the eyes at Givenchy is the real show stopper. Chanel was all about the strong liner, and when compared to their ready to wear show, this look was quite understated. Dior looked fresh and girly with brights on the eyes and lips. Armani Prive gave us a flash back to the 80′s with the strong brow, and Gaultier’s thin brows and dark skinny lips were a modern day version of the 20′s.
