Beauticontrol Brow Pencil

March 25th, 2011

As a brow obsessed person, I’m always trying out new brow products. I just got these new wind up pencils a couple of weeks ago, and I’m loving them. The pencil is a little softer than others I’ve used, but I am able to get a well defined brow that looks natural. As far as wearability I do my brows in the morning and they stay all day. The price point is only $12, you really can’t go wrong with that.

How to: Fill in Your Brows

January 27th, 2011

Depending on your face shape and how your eyebrows are positioned on your face, you can use these classic guidelines to achieve balanced and defined eyebrows. You can line a makeup brush lengthwise along your nose and move it into the positions 1, 2, and 3, shown above before you start to fill in.

1. Line 1 gives you the starting point for filling in your brow. Starting at the edge of your nose or the inner corner of your eye.

2. Line 2 is at the edge of your iris. This is approximately where your brow should start to arch.

3. The 3rd line marks the outer corner of your eye, and is where the eyebrow should end.

MTV EMA’s 2010

November 8th, 2010

MTV Europe Music Awards this weekend in Madrid were hosted by Eva Longoria. She looked gorgeous as ever on the red carpet with her hair swept up, it was all about the face and her flawless makeup. Most of the attention was on her eyes which were rimmed with lots of jet black eyeliner, and super long lashes. Shimmery cheeks, and pale lips completed her pretty look. Rihanna and Miley both wore sorbet pink shiny lips. Miley paired her pale pout with dark eyes and brows, and Rihanna, with red eyes and light brows. Katy Perry’s huge eyes were framed by precisely groomed brows. Radiant skin and a high pony, a refreshing change from her Smurf wig!

How to: Brows for Fall 2010

July 27th, 2010

For Fall 2010 it’s all about the well groomed eyebrow. The common brow theme at Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Chloe and Fendi-all seen above, is- full, brushed, defined, and slightly arched.  Here’s how to update your brows for the new season:

1. Use a mascara wand shaped brush to brush the brows up

2. Fill in gaps with a eyeshadow and an angle brush or pencil about one shade lighter than you hair colour. Use short strokes.

3. For more definition use a slightly darker eyeshadow or pencil.

4. Finish with either a wax or brow gel to keep the brows in place.

1. Anastasia mini duo angled/spooley 7 2. Smashbox brow tech 3. Laura Mercier brow gel 4. MAC eyebrows

Get the look: Scarlett Johansson

May 10th, 2010

Scarlett Johansson has been on the media circuit a lot  lately  (Iron Man 2 release) looking gorgeous. Never one to go to extremes with her make up, the key features she focuses on are: brows, lips, and cheeks.

For perfectly groomed brows Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil has a pencil on one end to fill in gaps and create definition, and a brush on the other to make sure your brows are in place. To get glowing cheeks with a hint of pink, try YSL Blush Variation is a combination of matte and shimmer that adds colour and shine to your cheeks. Scarlett Johansson is of course the face of Dolce and Gabbana The Make Up. I love their lipsticks. Really creamy and smooth they also last a longtime on the lips. For a pink similar to the one Scarlett wears try Dolce and Gabbana Velvet.

Soft Brows Without the Bleach

April 6th, 2010

I’m obsessed with bleached eyebrows. I’ve been intrigued by them for awhile, and would actually like to lighten my own a couple of shades. I realize the majority of people are not going to go to such extremes, but it happens to be a fixture on the runway this season and last. So I recommend keeping your brows soft rather than heavily defining with shadow or brow pencil. Basically you only need to fill in the gaps in your brows. If you have dark hair try using a brow gel that’s tinted lighter than your natural brow colour.

Remember taking away the brows draws more attention to your eyes, so make sure to play them up.

Tip of the Day: Groomed Eyebrows

February 17th, 2010

The first step to achieving properly groomed brows is to brush them into place with a brow brush. The brow brush can also be used after you’ve applied brow pencil or shadow. This technique assures neat and precise eyebrows.

Bleached Brows

November 16th, 2009

Bleached Brows

There was an absence of brows on the Fall runways. Shows like Givenchy, Giorgio Armani, and Matthew Williamson featured a make up look that did not require eyebrows. What I like about this look is that it’s ethereal and edgy all at the same time. Now executing this no brow look, can make for a slightly more chaotic backstage environment, which was the case at Jonathan Saunders Spring show. All the girls that showed up with their natural brows, had to then be bleached out. After the show about 15 models swarmed the make up team as we mixed up dye to put their brows back to the way they were! Based on that, I think this is one trend that will remain on the runway.

Lancome Powder Pencil

Good brows are essential to every face. For girls such as myself, the trick is to have brows that look naturally groomed and not painted on. Usually an eyeshadow and an angle brush can pretty much deliver a natural looking brow, but I do prefer the convenience of a pencil. The Lancome Powder Pencil is an ideal combination of a shadow and a pencil all in one. The texture is really smooth unlike many brow pencils that are so hard you can barely apply them without hurting yourself. It wears for hours without smudging, and instead of a rather dodgy angle brush attached to the other end, you get a brow comb that will soften the pencil so your brows look fantastic.

Effortless EyeBrows

The full brow is by far the most flattering shape for the face. For many seasons now the girls hit the runways with well groomed, beautifully arched eyebrows. Even Richard Nicoll SS09 was all about bountiful brows. So it’s pretty safe to say that this is standard procedure and not just a fleeting trend.

When it comes to perfecting your own brows think Brooke Shields not Pam Anderson! There are many ways to create a fuller brow — the most common is to use an eyebrow pencil. A natural look can also be achieved using an angled brush and an eyebrow powder or eyeshadow in a colour that is a couple of shades lighter than your hair colour. Once you have brushed the colour on your brows, try smoothing your brows with an eyelash brush like MAC 204. Not only does this groom the brows but it can also help lighten up the colour if you applied the shadow a bit heavy. Also try Make Up For Ever’s Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector. It’s perfect for anyone who’s had half a brow missing by the end of the day! For those of you fortunate enough to have naturally full eyebrows all you need is a clear brow gel to keep them in place all day long.
