I’m always trying out new lashes. I’ll test them on myself and if I like them I’ll pick up more for my kit. Celebrity makeup artist Stephen Moleski created his own line of lashes called Smoke and Mirrors Beauty. Each named after American cities. He also custom makes lashes for celebrities such as Carrie Underwood. I picked up the “Hollywood” lash while in Vegas. What I like about them is the band isn’t too thick which makes them very easy to apply. The length is long enough to draw attention to the eyes, and they’re also full but whispy at the ends so they don’t look too heavy.

Paperself eyelashes was one of the vendors I checked out at LFW last month. The designs are super intricate and delicate. I can’t see myself wearing them on a daily basis, but for a costume party or photo shoot they’d be quite amazing. Perusing the lash aisle at Boots the other day I came across these, inspired by SATC Samantha lashes. What I like about these is the fluttery texture, and how they’re thick at the base, and then taper off at the ends. I also like that the band is not to thick, making them very easy to apply. The length of the lash is very long, so these would not be my daytime choice, but for night they are perfect.

MTV Europe Music Awards this weekend in Madrid were hosted by Eva Longoria. She looked gorgeous as ever on the red carpet with her hair swept up, it was all about the face and her flawless makeup. Most of the attention was on her eyes which were rimmed with lots of jet black eyeliner, and super long lashes. Shimmery cheeks, and pale lips completed her pretty look. Rihanna and Miley both wore sorbet pink shiny lips. Miley paired her pale pout with dark eyes and brows, and Rihanna, with red eyes and light brows. Katy Perry’s huge eyes were framed by precisely groomed brows. Radiant skin and a high pony, a refreshing change from her Smurf wig!

For more interesting or dramatic looking false lashes, try stacking different styles. Before applying on the eye, stick the two styles together. A long pair and a thick pair work well to give a customized look.

If you want to recreate Jessica Alba’s signature look, while promoting Machete, start with loads of lashes. Her lips changed from nude to berry toned, and her hair from an up do to down. The one consistent thing about her makeup look was long fluttery lashes. Makeup Forever’s fashion lashes style 031, will give you a similar look. I would recommend stacking 2 pairs to achieve the desired look. To get more intensity around the eye area use black eye kohl like Givenchy’s magic kajal, in the water line, top and bottom. Kim along with her other sisters, were in Miami for the Beach Bunny Swimwear fashion show. Kim of course was wearing her signature make up look: dark smoky liner, but she had this very pretty deep peach colour on her eyelids. Lots of lashes, liquid eyeliner, bronze cheeks and of course the nude glossy pout. What was slightly unexpected were Kim’s neon pink nails-I like!

The Kids Choice Awards over the weekend, brought out the young Hollywood crowd. These four familiar faces from music, film, and television all looked glowy and youthful as they walked the orange carpet. Lea Michele’s brows and lashes are enviable. Katy Perry’s winged liquid liner and bright lips made her really stand out in a good way. Nikki Reed is probably the least glammed up, but she looks very fresh and pretty opting for a neutral make up. Rhianna too looks more pretty less edgy. Love the bronze cheeks and soft pink lips.

Smudge Style’s first “how to” video-easy false eye lash application.

As far as false lashes go these are the best for a natural look. What makes them so wearable, is that the longest length is in the middle rather than on the outer corners. This gives the effect of bigger, rounder eyes, rather than exaggerated length on the corners. #33 lashes are dark brown and not black which also gives a more subtle look. These lashes are made from natural hair, and can be used multiple times.

The 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards brought out quite a few familiar faces. Katy Perry and Leona Lewis looked picture perfect on the red carpet. Both ladies played up their eyes by wearing stacks of lashes, always a wise choice for instant glamour. I also enjoy the white eyeliner in Leona’s water line it makes her eyes appear big and bright.
