5 Tips For Wearing Shimmer & Frost

December 16th, 2011

Shimmers and frosts are probably the most popular texture at any cosmetic counter. Who can resist those sparkly colours, they just look too good to not walk away with.

Here are 5 tips on how to wear shimmer well:

1. Use subtle shimmer or frost eyeshadow to highlight the tops of your cheekbones, and inner corner of the eye.

2. When using a frost to highlight the brow bone do it before you fill in your brows and blend the shadow right over the eyebrow with a soft brush.

3. Tap your brush off before applying to avoid fall out on your cheeks. Or place a tissue just under your eye to catch the fall out.

4. For maximum shine apply a cream base first then press your frost eyeshadow on top. Or apply the shadow with a wet brush.

5. Use a matte colour through the crease of your eye to create definition.

Glitter and Glam

December 15th, 2011

We love some shimmer and sequins to take your outfit from drab to fab. The same can be said with your makeup. A combination of matte and glitter makes for the perfect face. Too much sparkle and you will look like a disco ball so decide which feature you want to stand out and add some shine. My new fave eye look on myself right now, is a dark matte eyelid in either grey, black or chocolate brown. Then as lower liner I’ve been using a gold large frost particle eyeshadow. Then I rim my water line with a jet black pencil.

Kat Von D Rock n Roll Eyeshadow Duos

February 8th, 2010

Over the weekend I’ve been wearing the Kat Von D Motorhead (black colour) eyeshadow. What I liked about the shadow initially was the two textures in one. Half is matte the other half has small silver glitter particles infused into it. Inside the lid is a small mirror which is quite convenient. I found that the shadow adheres to the skin quite easily when applied with a brush. The pay off is good especially the matte texture. As with most eyeshadow, when applied on top of a cream base you get maximum pay off. As I blended the shadow, I did notice the colour started to lose intensity going from dark black to more of a grey colour. The glitter particles fall onto your cheeks which can be annoying if you’ve already done your foundation. On myself, I found the shadow wore for at least 5 hours without fading.

Currently these shadows are half price at Sephora-only $10. For that price they are worth trying.

Glitter Tips and Tricks

Screen shot 2009-11-20 at 9.48.17 AMAs a follow up from last weeks post on glitter, here are our expert application tips:

1. Pour a small amount of glitter out rather than dipping your brush into the container. You’ll have better control over how much product you want

2. For a strong glitter eye apply a cream shadow or vaseline first for better adhesion

3. Apply glitter with a small flat eyeshadow brush or finger, and press onto the cream or vaseline

4. For an eyeliner look that doesn’t budge apply a thin line of surgical adhesive along the upper lash line (Try Duo Surgical Adhesive) pick up glitter with an angle brush and apply directly on top of the Duo.

5. For a more subtle approach apply fine particle glitter to the inner corners of the eye to brighten up a smoky eye

6. To make an all over body shimmer add two parts moisturizer to one part glitter

7. Sprinkle glitter on top of wet nail polish to create high shine nails

8. Use tape to clean up glitter that falls on the face where you don’t want it to
