Get the Look: Tom Ford Fall 2011

September 2nd, 2011

I love everything Tom Ford does, and I think this ad for the new Violet Blonde fragrance is stunning.

Here are a few tips that you could use to recreate the look:

1. Shade and highlight the eyes with lilac, pale pinks, and cool browns.

2. Contour under the cheekbones for a sculpted face.

3. Line your lips with a magenta coloured lip pencil and apply a matching lipstick. Finish the look with gloss to achieve the “Lara” pout.

Vogue August 2011

July 18th, 2011

August is the last of the summer magazine covers before the big September issues arrive. German Vogue features Claudia Schiffer on the cover looking stunning, and proving that she’s still a “super”. Paris Vogue never disappoints, and this month is no exception to that rule with the fabulous Lara Stone looking statuesque on the front.

Tom Ford Beauty Ads

June 14th, 2011

Here are two of the three Tom Ford Beauty ads featuring one of my absolute faves – Lara Stone, and the man himself, Tom Ford. I knew the campaign, and the collection would be amazing before I even saw them. Tom Ford represents that over the top luxury that oozes glamour. These 70′s inspired images are a prelude to the full cosmetic line said to launch in September. Created with the help of super talented Brit makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, I can hardly wait to get my hands on it.

How Often Do You Change Your Look?

May 30th, 2011

Every once in a while I come across women who hardly ever change their makeup or hairstyle. They often claim they want to try something new with their makeup  and say to me–”You’re the professional, what do you recommend?” After a little investigating I give my “expert” opinion, and  9 times out 10 they go right back to what they usually wear. We all have our makeup habits (I’ve had a bit of an obsession with lower eyeliner for more years than I care to admit)

So we want to know do our Smudge readers tend to switch it up, or are you creatures of habit?

Hair Trend: Centre Part

March 16th, 2011

The centre part is having a moment this Spring. Seen at quite a few shows across the fashion capitals, this is a super easy trend to update your look with. This early 70′s look of course works when your hair is down, but try it when your hair is pulled back too, like at Calvin Klein and Nina Ricci.

Lara Stone for Calvin Klein

June 15th, 2010

I’m sort of obsessed with Lara Stone. As are most people in the industry, so it’s not entirely surprising that Lara is the face of not one but three, branches of the Calvin Klein brand. The brow-less blonde looks stunning in every image. From contoured and sleek in Calvin Klein Collection, laid back and young in Calvin Klein Jeans, and showing off her famous mouth wearing red lips for CK. Love it!

CFDA Awards 2010

June 8th, 2010

Last night in New York the much anticipated CFDA’s (Council of Fashion Designers of America) took place. Among those in attendance were models, designers, editors, stylists, and celebrities-a who’s who of the fashion industry. The evening showcased AW 10 collections of some of the nominees like Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang. But the highlight of the evening had to have been the Special Tribute Award to Alexander McQueen. Sarah Jessica Parker, who looked stunning in McQueen, gave a speech about her late friend and a mini runway show of his last collection was seen. Other awards went to Marc Jacobs for Women’s Wear Designer of the Year, Fashion Icon Award to Iman, Swarovski Accessories Designer of the Year to Alexander Wang (of course!) Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award to Michael Kors (who’s date was Gwyneth Paltrow). For a complete list of winners click here.

The Bright 80′s

The Bright 80's

The eighties were about flash and cash in all aspects of life. This time around there isn’t as much cash so going extreme with make up is a less expensive alternative. There is a lot of precision required with these looks so when trying to achieve that Nicole Miller elongated blue eye, brushes are a must. Don’t even attempt the neon lip without a super sharp lip pencil to define the mouth. While overindulgence is the theme of the trend, no need to amp eyes, cheeks, and lips choose your favourite and let it stand out.

Perfect Pastels

May 6th, 2009

This Spring Summer you cannot go wrong when wearing pastel inspired make up.  All shades are relevant: pink, peach, mint, lemon, and lavender.   Try washed out and milky, or an icy metallic version as seen above on Lara Stone at Zac Posen. Depending on the feature you choose to wear your favourite pastel colours-eyes or lips,  be sure to complete the rest of your look with earth tones.
