Front Row at London and Milan Fashion Week for SS12

September 28th, 2011

Celebs and models jetted to London and Milan for a front row view of the spring collections. A laid back Whitney Port was spotted in London. As well as a super glammed up Sienna Miller, who joined many others at a party to honor Mario Testino. The Italian shows drew stars like Scarlett Johannson at Dolce and Gabbana, and Heidi Klum at Versace. One more city to go…Paris!

Makeup Artist: Kay Montano

September 27th, 2011

Makeup artist Kay Montano’s stunning work can be seen on celebrity faces like Gwyneth Paltrow to the editorials of the best fashion publications. Montano is also a sort after key makeup artist for fashion weeks in the 4 capitals. I worked backstage with her a few years ago at LFW and saw first hand how she creates flawless makeup.

Sneak Preview: London SS12

September 22nd, 2011

Even though London is not as highly ranked of a fashion week as its counter parts, New York, Milan, and Paris, London always has some of the coolest shows. The energy in the city during fashion week has been contagious. London exudes street style like no other, and I absolutely love it here.

The makeup looks at Burberry, Berardi, and Christopher Kane were the epitome of summer beauty. The strong matte red lip at Erdem was stunning. The gold leaf hair at Topshop Unique was very cool, and Holly Fulton’s smoky liner was ultra sexy.
And now on to Milan…

Would you Wear this?

April 8th, 2011

Sometimes when I flip through pictures in magazines of makeup, hair, and clothing I think– if I had to wear something on this page, which look would it be? The looks above are from 3 London shows for Spring 2011. If you had to wear one of these this weekend which would you choose? Louise Gray’s colbalt blue shadow with matching mascara, and multi patterned head gear? Or Meadham Kirchoff’s colour blocked hair, long drawn on lower lashes, and red lips? Or Topshop Unique’s humungous frizzy hair, and scarlet lip?

Which look would you wear?

  • Topshop Unique (56%, 22 Votes)
  • Meadham Kirchoff (31%, 12 Votes)
  • Louise Gray (13%, 5 Votes)

Total Voters: 39

Paperself Eyelashes

March 22nd, 2011

Paperself eyelashes was one of the vendors I checked out at LFW last month. The designs are super intricate and delicate. I can’t see myself wearing them on a daily basis, but for a costume party or photo shoot they’d be quite amazing. You can buy the lashes all over the world including here in Vancouver at Noir Lash Lounge.

Sneak Preview: London Fashion Week AW11

March 1st, 2011

London seemed to be having a bit of a love affair with the gloss for Fall. Christpher Kane, Jonathan Saunders, and Giles all showed various degrees of glowy skin, which I love. Erdem and David Koma had a very structured eye paired with a pale mouth. Brows were nice and full at Burberry, Aquascutum, and Mary Katrantzou. My new fave Brit designer Holly Fulton, kept the focus on the mouth with a glossy blackened plum colour. All in all London gave us a very lovely looking AW11.

Sneak Preview: New York Fashion Week FW/11

February 18th, 2011

I’m currently in London, and it’s the first day of  fashion week! After touring around the exhibiton centre at Somerset House, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate location to write about New York AW/11 collections. These 6 are our favourite shows. The glossy gold eye and pale pink lip at Donna Karan was so fabulous. Make up design by Charlotte Tilbury and she never disappoints. There really wasn’t much colour going on the eyes other than black. The shape of the eye make up is what makes it interesting. Elongated at Jason Wu, and squared ends at Marc Jacobs. Brows seemed to go from non existant at DVF to big and bold at Alexander Wang. Same thing with lips, we saw strong red at DVF to quite bare at Narcisco Rodriguez. Look for our LFW sneak preview next week.

Front Row at London, Milan & Paris Fashion Week

October 12th, 2010

Wearing the current collection and sitting front row at some of the best shows of the season, is definitely a perk to being an actress. Olivia Palermo NYC socialite, and The City reality star, managed to make it to all 4 cities. I saw her at Giambattista Valli in Paris looking totally flawless and gorgeous. My favourite look was Rachel Bilson at Roberto Cavalli’s 40th anniversary party in Paris. That dress is just amazing. Now that the Spring shows are complete, and the excitement has died down it’s back to Fall 2010-yesterday was the first day I actually had to wear a sweater.

McQueen Memorial

September 22nd, 2010

Close friends gathered in London earlier this week to remember the late Alexander McQueen. Despite taking place in the middle of London Fashion Week, out of respect, shows were not scheduled during the memorial service. Anna Wintour spoke, Bjork sang, and Sarah Jessica Parker was photographed crying as everyone remembered the legacy that was McQueen.

Back Stage at Jonathan Saunders

May 28th, 2010

The last show I worked during LFW SS 10 was Jonathan Saunders. Keyed by Lucia Peroni, the girls had a slightly pale look to their skin, bleached brows, and blood red lips just in the centre of the mouth. Eyes were very slightly shaded with MAC Kid eyeshadow, and Shroom eyeshadow was used to highlight the tops of the cheekbones. To create skin that was bright and pale at the same time, we used a few pumps of MAC Strobe Liquid. Wet look hair with a deep side part completed the beautiful yet eery look.

Would You Wear These Lips?

April 5th, 2010

At Henry Holland SS 10 the look was all about the lips. Models went down the runway with either grape or neon orange coloured lips. The rest of the make up was kept very clean and simple, with just clear gloss on the lids. To create this lip MAC PRO lipstick in Violetta was applied with Plum Lip Pencil.

Brights are a reoccurring trend for Spring, but the question is…would you wear this grape lipstick?

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen

February 23rd, 2010

London has been the place to be for the past few days. The BAFTA’s, Elle Style Awards, and London Fashion Week have meant an influx of American celebrities. My favourite twins we’re seen at a BAFTA event as well as at the Style Awards looking fashion forward as usual. Their huge blue eyes always stand out whether they’re wearing smoky eyes as seen on the left or neutral shadows like the picture on the right. What I always admire about these two is that they look effortlessly put together.

Model of the Moment: Ranya Mordanova

October 26th, 2009

Model of the Moment: Ranya Mordanova

New to the scene and already making a name for herself is Ranya Mordanova. She’s already been dubbed as a “rising star” and one of the “top ten newcomers” by several industry insiders. Since debuting in New York this February, Ranya’s managed to score editorials in French Vogue, W and V magazine as well as a lucrative ad campaign with Givenchy. And that’s just to name a few!

During London Fashion week in September, I worked with Ranya at Christopher Kane and Jonathan Saunders. Intense eyes, severe bowl cut, poreless pale skin, and the most adorable pout. A guarantee that she stands out in a crowd.

Model of the Moment: Alla Kostromicheva

October 2nd, 2009

Alla Kostromicheva

I first met Alla Kostromicheva this season in London at Christopher Kane. I did her make up again the next day at Jonathan Saunders, I thought to myself I like this girl she’s down to earth, easy to chat with and most importantly has striking features. She’s walked a ton of runways for Spring 2010 from Alexander Wang in New York to Balenciaga just yesterday in Paris. Alla’s pictures in the latest issue of 10 magazine are nothing short of amazing-she is for sure my model of the moment.

Sneak Preview: London Fashion Week

I have just returned from my favourite city that was celebrating twenty five years of fashion week-London was amazing! In contrast to New York, London is known for it’s edgier more hard hitting street style both on and off the runway. The make up for Spring Summer 2010 was not really about looking tan and perfect but more about creating a statement. Burberry has been revived from it’s stuffy old English history to be youthful and fresh. At Jonathan Saunders we perfected and slightly paled out the skin so the models looked almost waxy. Virtually every girl had her eyebrows bleached to non existence. Lips were toned down with concealer except the very inner part which had bright red and deep currant coloured liners applied to the mouth, very “new moon” style. What’s a London runway without colour? Marios Schwab, Luella, and Richard Nicholl had variations on colour from soft to bright. Erdem gave us long lush lashes. Now Milan is in full swing get ready for heavy doses of glamour.
