Big Bows

May 14th, 2010

Big playful bows were seen on the Spring/Summer runways. This seasons bow is oversized, floppy and full of girlish charm. At Marc, Luella and DVF, brightly coloured bows were worn in the hair, but countless other shows featured bows on blouses, dresses and all manner of accessories. An easy way to wear the trend is with a headband. But if big bows are way too Tavi for you then try wearing a headband with a smaller bow. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Bando Faboooosh Hairband
2. Cara Accessories ‘Special Fluttering’ Floral Bow Headband

3. Topshop Floppy Bow Headband

The Top Knot

April 30th, 2010

This runway look gained momentum in the Fall and we’re still seeing it for Spring. The top knot comes in many forms, and sizes. I think a medium size undone look is the easiest to replicate and looks the most chic. (It depends on how long and thick your hair is. I like to add extensions for a more dramatic look as seen at Lanvin or on Jennifer Lopez) Here’s how to get the runway look in a few quick steps.

1. Simply brush your hair into a ponytail. Closer to the top of the head looks best.

2. For an undone look, lightly tease the lengths of the ponytail to create some body.

3. Twist the ponytail around the base and secure with pins.

Sneak Preview: London Fashion Week SS/10

Sneak Preview: London Fashion Week

I have just returned from my favourite city that was celebrating twenty five years of fashion week-London was amazing! In contrast to New York, London is known for it’s edgier more hard hitting street style both on and off the runway. The make up for Spring Summer 2010 was not really about looking tan and perfect but more about creating a statement. Burberry has been revived from it’s stuffy old English history to be youthful and fresh. At Jonathan Saunders we perfected and slightly paled out the skin so the models looked almost waxy. Virtually every girl had her eyebrows bleached to non existence. Lips were toned down with concealer except the very inner part which had bright red and deep currant coloured liners applied to the mouth, very “new moon” style. What’s a London runway without colour? Marios Schwab, Luella, and Richard Nicholl had variations on colour from soft to bright. Erdem gave us long lush lashes. Now Milan is in full swing get ready for heavy doses of glamour.
