British Fashion Awards 2011

November 29th, 2011

The British Fashion awards took place last night at the Savoy Hotel in London, England. Winners include Victoria Beckham for designer brand of the year, Sarah Burton for designer of the year and Alexa Chung for the British style award for the 2nd year running.

Personally, I thought that Poppy Delevigne’s looked fantastic in her Matthew Williamson dress and fishtail plait. And Kate Moss looked her usual fabulous self with her fur and bright red lips.

Top 6 Fall Makeup Trends

August 26th, 2011

As the summer season starts to wrap up, here are the most important makeup trends for fall 2011.

1. Black eyeliner–we have mentioned this before as a transitional look going into fall. Straight lines in all different designs ruled the runways from New York to Paris. So get your liquid liner ready you are going to need it.

2. Flushed Cheeks–flawless skin is always a must, and for fall we keep seeing a slightly flushed cheek along with that. The placement varies from high on the cheekbone to low, and not so much on the apples.

3. Spider Lashes–Pile on the mascara to maximize your lashes. This is not about separating each individual lash, it’s about a majorly clumpy look.

4. Metallic Eyes–Copper, gold, silver, bronze are all key players for eye shadow.

5. Big brows–Strong, defined, dark that is how I would describe the brow for fall.

6. Crimson lips–It wouldn’t be fall without a red lip. Semi matte and matte textures tend to be the texture for the season.

Kate Moss Wedding

July 4th, 2011

Friday July 1st may have been Canada day here, but across the pond it was the day Kate Moss wed Jamie Hince. In what looked to be the most fabulous yet relaxed wedding of the year. Set in the English countryside, Kate wore a beautiful John Galliano dress and veil for the ceremony, and apparently changed multiple times throughout the evening into different dresses by Stella McCartney. Two of my faves – Sam McKnight and Charlotte Tilbury were responsible for her signature tousled hair and low key makeup. The groom looked very dapper in a double breasted YSL suit.

The celebration continued all weekend in true rock star style, with performances by Snoop Dogg, Iggy Pop, Beth Ditto, and Bryan Ferry. Once the party was over Kate, in a white Stella McCartney trouser suit, and Jamie were air lifted by helicopter to an undisclosed honeymoon location. Now that’s how you do a wedding!

Model of the Moment: Melodie Monrose

January 5th, 2011

Flawless skin, and huge doe eyes,18 year old Melodie Monrose is from the beautiful island of Martinique and  has only one season under her belt. Spring 2011 was her induction into the runway world, where her very first show was day 1 of NYFW at Vena Cava. After that it was onwards and upwards with shows like Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Rag and Bone, and Jason Wu. In Milan Monrose booked some of the top shows of the week: Prada, Gucci, Missoni, and Bottega Veneta. Then off to Paris where she walked for YSL and Valentino. A pretty amazing first season! I’m sure we’ll be seeing even more of Melodie Monrose come February for Fall Winter 2011.

Sneak Preview: New York S/S 11

September 20th, 2010

Fashion month Spring/Summer 2011 is off to an excellent start. We saw some strong collections come out of New York. Gorgeous makeup, hair and clothes. Overall the models looked fresh and there seems to be quite a bit of colour in the makeup. Preen was one of my faves with makeup direction by James Kaliardos. Loved the matte pastel blue in the inner corner of the eyes. London is in full swing as we write this post. Look for our London review soon…

CFDA Awards 2010

June 8th, 2010

Last night in New York the much anticipated CFDA’s (Council of Fashion Designers of America) took place. Among those in attendance were models, designers, editors, stylists, and celebrities-a who’s who of the fashion industry. The evening showcased AW 10 collections of some of the nominees like Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang. But the highlight of the evening had to have been the Special Tribute Award to Alexander McQueen. Sarah Jessica Parker, who looked stunning in McQueen, gave a speech about her late friend and a mini runway show of his last collection was seen. Other awards went to Marc Jacobs for Women’s Wear Designer of the Year, Fashion Icon Award to Iman, Swarovski Accessories Designer of the Year to Alexander Wang (of course!) Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award to Michael Kors (who’s date was Gwyneth Paltrow). For a complete list of winners click here.

CFDA Women’s Wear Nominees

March 23rd, 2010

CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) announced the nominees and honorees for 2010 last week. The three women’s wear designers-Alexander Wang, Donna Karan, and Marc Jacobs are all very strong contenders in their own right. Donna Karan of course is an established name that’s been around for 25 years. Wang is just a baby in comparison, his second full ready-to-wear show was in February 2007. Proving his major street cred with both the industry and consumers alike, he’s also nominated for Accessory Design. As for Marc, he is without a doubt one of the most influential designers of the past decade, designing collections for himself as well as French power house Louis Vuitton.

So who’s it going to be? The newbie, the oldie, or someone so influential he transcends even his own line and designs for another more highly esteemed?

The Bright 80′s

September 10th, 2009

The Bright 80's

The eighties were about flash and cash in all aspects of life. This time around there isn’t as much cash so going extreme with make up is a less expensive alternative. There is a lot of precision required with these looks so when trying to achieve that Nicole Miller elongated blue eye, brushes are a must. Don’t even attempt the neon lip without a super sharp lip pencil to define the mouth. While overindulgence is the theme of the trend, no need to amp eyes, cheeks, and lips choose your favourite and let it stand out.
