Makeup Artist: Dotti

June 24th, 2011

The creative style of makeup artist Dotti has been featured in many publications from Allure to Italian Vogue. I particulary like her use of hard lines and minimal colour which let’s the design of her makeup really stand out.

VS Angels at the CFDA’s

June 7th, 2011

These Victoria’s Secret models ditched their wings for gowns, at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards last night. Alessandra’s red dress and matching red lip looked very glam. Doutzen, also in red worked the smoky eye and nude lip. I was not a huge fan of Karolina’s emerald green, hooded sequin dress. Fortunately her makeup and hair was subtle enough so the entire look was not a complete disaster. I think Miranda Kerr wearing black Michael Kors, and simple hair and makeup was the best dressed of the four.

What do you think?

El Museo del Barrio Gala

May 31st, 2011

Models Crystal Renn and Candice Swanepoel looked stunning at El Museo del Barrio gala, honoring Mario Testino for his phenomenal 30 year career. Candice looked amazing all smoky eyed, hair slicked back and tuxedo wearing. Crystal really worked the centre part and bright lip, with a thigh high slit dress.

Fashion’s Night Out: Fashion Show

September 9th, 2010

This was the largest fashion show in NY history. 171 looks and 150 precisely choreographed models. Gisele opened and Naomi closed along with a performance by Pharrell. The audience sat in a circular set up no more than two rows deep. The models paraded the latest Fall collections in and around the audience. This fashion extravaganza sets the tone for September 1oth’s official Fashion’s Night Out in NYC, encouraging New Yorkers to spend their money on fashion and stimulate the economy.

MET Ball 2010

May 4th, 2010

Everyone was in New York for the MET Ball on Monday night. Quite frankly, I think there were more best dressed celebrities last night, then we saw throughout the entire awards season. Blake Lively’s brilliant blue Marchesa was my favourite dress. The detail and the colour are amazing. Blake wore matte pink lips, loads of lashes, a sleek high ponytail, and a golden tan=perfection! As for the other ladies-Diane Kruger is always flawless, Sienna Miller looked surprisingly fresh and pretty, Taylor Swift’s entire look is very glam, and her skin looks radiant, and Kate Bosworth’s 1940′s inspired hair is very classic.

Front Row at Fashion Week

March 15th, 2010

Fewer celebrities were at the International Collections this season. Factor in the weather-New York, the Oscars-during Paris and money-which is affecting all designers during the current economic climate. However, the main fashionistas did not let anything deter them. Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe definitely would not miss, it is her job after all. Mary Kate and Ashley were seen in New York and London. Nicole Richie and Annalynne McCord were both seen in New York. Kristen Stewart stopped by Burberry Prorsum while in London (kinda random) along with Kate Hudson who wore the most gorgeous emerald sequin dress. Lindsay seen here in Milan at Cavalli. Alexa Chung wearing head to toe Chanel at Chanel in Paris. It’s a wrap on Autumn Winter 2010 fashion month.

Model of the Moment: Shu Pei Qin

February 25th, 2010

Shu Pei has walked the runways of all the big shows in every major city from New York to Paris. This past season Spring 2010, Shu Pei became one of the few Asian models to walk the runway for Prada. Since she signed with Next in 2007 Shu Pei’s resume has been getting longer with editorials in Chinese Vogue, W, Teen Vogue, Chinese Elle, and British Elle. I spotted her at Christopher Kane last season. She has sort of an innocence about her, but she’s provocative at the same time. Great eyes, full lips, and striking bone structure she has a long career ahead of her.

Makeup Artist: Kabuki

February 3rd, 2010

Former New York club kid and one time model, Kabuki is one of the most phenomenal make up artists in the industry. What I find most intriguing about Kabuki is the diversity of his work. From creating the make up looks for the early seasons of Sex and the City to outrageous fantasy looks for Lady Gaga. I once saw him create this beautiful alien mask on a model, with wing like lashes that he’d made out of construction paper! I always say in this business the more you know, the more you work, and Kabuki is a testimony to that.

The Black Eye for SS 09

June 17th, 2009

It comes around every season. Can be seen on runways in all four of the fashion capitals. It’s the smoky eye. This seasons adaptation is imprecise, melted, and pillow smudged. Always dark, sooty with a lived in look. At Cavalli the melted look was achieved by applying Nars Cream Eyeshadow in Zardoz over the top of a pencil. Waxy kohl liners are perfect for recreating a slightly imperfect look. Backstage at Temperley London we used MAC Smolder Eye Kohl, and cream based shadows to give the girls an edgy yet glam look. Finish the look with flawless skin and a beige nude lip as seen on Mary Kate Olsen. This is your recipe for a hot summer look!
