Transition to Spring: Wet Hair

Ever since I saw Abbey Lee Kershaw and Britt Maren with this icy blonde colour I was instantly drawn to it. Although this blonde is a statement colour, with it comes a lot of versatility — ethereal, mod, retro or punk depending on how you want to wear it. Certainly not everybody can pull this look off, but if you have good quality hair that is light and the right skin tone, this just may be the new colour for you.

Runway hair this season wasn’t just about the big glam locks, and sleek smooth tresses. These twisted and braided styles are a very pretty alternative for the Spring. Shoulder length and longer hair can be manipulated into anyone of these styles with a bit of creativity. With the exception of the McQueen basket weave which is perhaps a little more challenging to achieve. For example switch out the thread, for pins to get the YSL look. I myself am not a talented hairdresser at all. However, even I was able to somewhat pull off the LV side twist in my own way. It lasted the evening and I could not re-do it again the next morning to save my life.

To create a runway worthy ponytail, curl hair first with a large barrel iron before putting it up. This will give your ponytail a bit of volume, and a more on trend look like the one seen here from Louis Vuittton Fall 2010.

It’s the season of the side braid. This whimsical look got a 2010 redo at Alexander Wang and Miu Miu. The girls wore their braids slightly dishevelled, thick, and extra long. This is definitely my braid of choice. I’ve tried and tested it already, and got complements! If a sleek version is more your speed, then either the Lacoste or Gaultier look would be more appropriate.
Anyone else loving the one braided ponytail?

Two hair styles that really stand out for Fall 2009, are the super sleek Robert Palmer look or great waves. Both of these looks showed up on runways across all four capitals. After consulting with my “go to hair girl”, she gave me a few fool proof tricks to recreate these of the moment styles.
Runway waves:
1. Start from the underneath and separate big sections.
2. Hold your curling iron horizontally and with a light hand if you’re trying to get a loose look. Hold the curling iron tighter for a more sculpted look.
3. Finish with a good dose of aerosol hairspray. Try Redken Forceful 23, it gives incredible hold without a stiff finish.
Sleek tres chic:
1. Starting with damp hair work gel in from roots to ends. Try Bumble and Bumble Bb Gel, it’s a modern take on a classic.
2. Using a fine tooth comb part hair and gather to the back, twist and pin.
3. Apply a little more gel to the surface to get that immaculate shiny finish, and air dry.
