Get the Look: Lanvin

September 23rd, 2010

One of our best-loved shows for FW10 has to be Lanvin. From the jet black wigs with super strong fringe, to the blinged out smoky eye, and the clothes are amazing too! Here are a few tips to get the look:

1. Start with a semi matte foundation to even out skin tone. I like Shu Uemura’s Nobara Stick it has excellent coverage.

2. For intense smoky eyes use the blackest black eye kohl and shadow to set. Make sure to pull the shape out towards the temple.

3. Use a small flat brush with a little vaseline on it to adhere the glitter to the eyelids.

4. Lips should be nude and matte with a peach beige undertone.

1. MAC smolder eye kohl 2. Shu Uemura Nobara Stick Foundation 3. MAC reflects gold glitter 4. Nars honolulu honey lipstick 5. Illamasqua gimp eyesahdow 6. Kevyn Aucoin medium flesh tone lip pencil

Chanel Fall 2010

August 11th, 2010

The Chanel Fall make up collection is the perfect antidote to Summer’s neons and pastels. Though not available in Canada for another couple of weeks, I was able to test the samples that were on display at The Bay. The shadows in the Enigma palette all have a cool grey undertone. At least 3 of them will be perfect for creating the ever so important smoky eye of the season. There are also two single eyeshadows launching with this collection one of which is called Vert Khaki-a dark khaki green with a frost texture, it is gorgeous. Another notable addition to the line is the Intense Eye pencil in clair, a pale nude beige colour that will work as a brightener in the water line. Of course Chanel never disappoints in the nail polish department. Paradoxal nail polish is a dark grey, purple with a slight iridescence. I put my name on the already long waiting list for this one, I’m not holding my breath though.

Peter Philips is the master mind behind the Chanel make up collections as well as the make up direction for their runway shows inParis. The Fall show was all about these really messy undone looking eyes, that looked like a a child had got hold of her mother’s liquid eyeliner and dotted it all over her lids. The eyes were complemented with flawless skin and bare lips. Take this look from runway to real way for Fall, by being not totally precise with your eye make up but keeping up your skin perfect and lips nude.

Couture Shows Fall/Winter 2010

July 13th, 2010

The Couture shows last week in Paris, were a perfect fashion fix before Spring shows begin in September. Dior stayed true to form with dramatic eyebrows bright geometric eyeshadow, and ultra dark matte lips. I loved the warm metallic, elongated, 70′s feel eye at both Elie Saab and Armani Prive. Karl Lagerfeld wowed the crowds with a massive gold lion in the centre of the runway for the red lipped, bare eyed models to walk around. Red lips and a dark carved out crease with fluttery lashes was the look at JPG. White shadow on the lids, clear gloss on the lips, and top knots gave the girls at Valentino a very innocent look.

Liquid Eyeliner for Spring

June 24th, 2010

Liquid liner is a make up artist staple, and this Spring it showed up on the runway in a variety of forms. Dior kept it classic extending the line past the outer corner of the eye. The look at Cavalli was similar but the line is thicker and more exaggerated giving it a tougher look. Chalayan, Lagerfeld, and Oscar framed the eye by lining all the way around. I like liner on the top and bottom, it brings a lot of intensity to the eyes. Valentino’s liquid liner lids make the strongest statement, especially against an almost bare face.

Would You Wear These Lips?

April 5th, 2010

At Henry Holland SS 10 the look was all about the lips. Models went down the runway with either grape or neon orange coloured lips. The rest of the make up was kept very clean and simple, with just clear gloss on the lids. To create this lip MAC PRO lipstick in Violetta was applied with Plum Lip Pencil.

Brights are a reoccurring trend for Spring, but the question is…would you wear this grape lipstick?

Sneak Preview: Milan A/W 10

March 1st, 2010

As I, and the rest of the fashion insiders out there predicted, the Milan shows so far have had some pretty glamorous make up. For the most part, it wasn’t completely over the top glamour-Dsquared being the exception to that rule. The look from Gucci is very similar to my own standard look. I am all about the black pencil in the water line. Overall the major trends coming out of Milan seem to be flawless skin that’s sculpted, red or nude lips, and an emphasis on the eyebrows.

Sneak Preview: London A/W 10

February 24th, 2010

London Fashion wrapped up on Tuesday. I missed not being there this season, there were some really amazing shows and some emerging designers worth watching. After spending the last few days going through show images both on the runway and backstage, it’s easy to see why London Fashion Week remains the most exciting. The neutral palette of earth tones seen in New York seemed to continue on in London. Interesting placement made up for the lack of colour. The contouring at Vivienne Westwood was very intense. Combined with the soft cloud of teezed hair was so dramatic. Jeremy Scott’s geometric eyeliner paired with caramel shading on the cheeks, and mauvey brown lips is fantastic.

Next stop is Milan get ready for major glamour.

Bleached Brows

November 16th, 2009

Bleached Brows

There was an absence of brows on the Fall runways. Shows like Givenchy, Giorgio Armani, and Matthew Williamson featured a make up look that did not require eyebrows. What I like about this look is that it’s ethereal and edgy all at the same time. Now executing this no brow look, can make for a slightly more chaotic backstage environment, which was the case at Jonathan Saunders Spring show. All the girls that showed up with their natural brows, had to then be bleached out. After the show about 15 models swarmed the make up team as we mixed up dye to put their brows back to the way they were! Based on that, I think this is one trend that will remain on the runway.

Lady Luxe

Screen shot 2009-11-04 at 11.52.47 AM

Lady like sophistication hit the runways this season. Strong feminine shapes like the pencil skirt, sky high heels, and statement necklaces deserve a make up look that takes more than five minutes to apply. Start by brightening and perfecting skin with YSL Touche Eclat. Eyes can be smoky in colour and almond in shape. Or go for a light coloured shadow all over the eyes, and define the lash line with a strong winged out liquid eyeliner usingĀ Armani’s Maestro Eyeliner. No lady like look is complete without a classic red lip easily achieved with Chanel Lipstick in Lover. Revlon’s All Fired Up nail enamel finishes the luxe look.
