The 5 Minute Face for Summer

July 5th, 2011

It’s summer and a face full of makeup is neither practical or necessary. Here are a few quick tips to get a fresh face fast:

1. Skin is the most important. In lieu of foundation, concealer and powder go for a tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone. Applied with your fingers it will take literally seconds. Dab a bit of touche under the eyes and your done.

2. I like to use bronzing powder instead of blush to add colour and dimension to the face. Sweep under the cheekbones and on the high planes of the face with a brush.

3. Skip eyeshadow and define the eyes with kohl. Apply along the upper and lower lash line, and then smudge to soften the line. Then apply a few coats of black mascara.

4. Multi-purpose products are the best for quick makeup looks. A cream shadow can be dabbed onto the lips as a lipstick, and on the apples of the cheeks if you like to wear a blush.

1. Topshop Kohl 2. MAC Cream Colour Base 3. NARS Bronzing Powder 4. Cover FX Skin Tint 5. YSL Touche Eclat 6. Rimmel Glam Eyes Mascara

Backstage at Balmain — Paris Fashion Week

October 13th, 2010

The way I see it If you can’t be in the front row then backstage is the next best thing when it comes to Collections. Balmain’s Spring show was held at Le Grand Hotel InterContinental Paris, in complete contrast to the punk inspired clothes that hit the runway. As for the make up, it didn’t veer away from the usual Balmain girl, in the words of Tom Pecheux “make them look sexy.” Pecheux provided no demo, but instead implied that skin should look flawless without a heavy foundation-MAC Studio Sculpt, and YSL Touche Eclat to conceal. Cheekbones should be shaded and a bit bronze-MAC Mineralized Skin Finish medium deep. Brows should be gently defined but not perfect looking. No eyeshadow on the eyelids, just black mascara to lengthen the lashes-Armani Maestro. All that was required on the lips was a little bit of lip balm-Elizabeth Arden 8hr Cream. This combination of products, and the fact that I worked with Freja and Britt resulted in some very hot makeup.

Concealer Tips

March 4th, 2010

Concealer is a lifesaver. It covers anything you ever want to hide, from blemishes to bad tattoos. Here are a few concealer tips:

1. Choose the right tool. Small soft brushes for concealing under the eyes. Small firm brushes are better for blemishes and spots.

2. If you can, avoid using heavy cream concealers under the eyes they can look noticeable. Instead opt for a medium coverage liquid concealer for seamless coverage.

3. Use a warm coloured concealer to cancel out dark circles that have blue undertones.

4. When applying concealer under the eye or on a blemish, focus on the area that needs covering. Don’t over apply where you don’t need it.

5. Choose the right colour. Too light only emphasizes what you’re trying to disguise.

6. Always prep the skin with appropriate skincare before apply concealer. Concealer will blend easier and look more natural.

Lady like sophistication hit the runways this season. Strong feminine shapes like the pencil skirt, sky high heels, and statement necklaces deserve a make up look that takes more than five minutes to apply. Start by brightening and perfecting skin with YSL Touche Eclat. Eyes can be smoky in colour and almond in shape. Or go for a light coloured shadow all over the eyes, and define the lash line with a strong winged out liquid eyeliner using Armani’s Maestro Eyeliner. No lady like look is complete without a classic red lip easily achieved with Chanel Lipstick in Lover. Revlon’s All Fired Up nail enamel finishes the luxe look.
