YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain

January 10th, 2012

For anyone who wished for a lipgloss that stayed on YSL just launched this hybrid product–Glossy Stain, and like the name suggests it’s a gloss that wears like a lip stain. The texture feels, and looks much like a gloss but the formula lasts like a lip stain would much longer than your average lip gloss. It comes in 19 shades, and as of now is available only at Selfridges.

YSL Beauty

October 11th, 2011

The YSL Holiday collection is made up of rich jewel tone colours for the nails, and eyes. The entire collection is highly pigmented and the mascara, cream liner and liquid eyeliner are waterproof for exceptionally long wear. The new shocking volume mascara comes in 6 deep shades from black to a black cherry. The show stopper of the collection has to be the new mascara. As with most innovations in mascara it’s not just the formula, but the brush that makes all the difference. The amplified helix brush is cut specifically to give major volume to your lashes. The formula itself is really thick and creamy so you get that pop when you pull the brush from the tube. The result is thick, dark lashes completely on trend for the season.

Fall 2011 Cosmetic Campaigns

July 25th, 2011

New makeup–there’s nothing quite like it. The prestige brands like Dior, Anna Sui, Chanel, YSL, and Givenchy all pictured above, look like they have some gorgeous new colours for the new autumn season. I’m very interested in the magenta lip Arizona Muse is wearing in the YSL ad.

Kate Moss Wedding

July 4th, 2011

Friday July 1st may have been Canada day here, but across the pond it was the day Kate Moss wed Jamie Hince. In what looked to be the most fabulous yet relaxed wedding of the year. Set in the English countryside, Kate wore a beautiful John Galliano dress and veil for the ceremony, and apparently changed multiple times throughout the evening into different dresses by Stella McCartney. Two of my faves – Sam McKnight and Charlotte Tilbury were responsible for her signature tousled hair and low key makeup. The groom looked very dapper in a double breasted YSL suit.

The celebration continued all weekend in true rock star style, with performances by Snoop Dogg, Iggy Pop, Beth Ditto, and Bryan Ferry. Once the party was over Kate, in a white Stella McCartney trouser suit, and Jamie were air lifted by helicopter to an undisclosed honeymoon location. Now that’s how you do a wedding!

Model of the Moment: Melodie Monrose

January 5th, 2011

Flawless skin, and huge doe eyes,18 year old Melodie Monrose is from the beautiful island of Martinique and  has only one season under her belt. Spring 2011 was her induction into the runway world, where her very first show was day 1 of NYFW at Vena Cava. After that it was onwards and upwards with shows like Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Rag and Bone, and Jason Wu. In Milan Monrose booked some of the top shows of the week: Prada, Gucci, Missoni, and Bottega Veneta. Then off to Paris where she walked for YSL and Valentino. A pretty amazing first season! I’m sure we’ll be seeing even more of Melodie Monrose come February for Fall Winter 2011.

Perfectly Pink

December 9th, 2010

Pink is classic. It never goes out of style, and it looks good on everyone — seriously! YSL and Ungaro both featured cool, bright pink make up looks. The look isn’t pale or pastel. So of you want to replicate it, choose a pink with more pigment and intensity. Keep the look grounded by adding black eyeliner like the YSL image, or wearing brown eyeshadow with pink cheeks, and nails like the Chanel campaign.

1. Illamasqua promise cream blusher 2. Laura Mercier rose gold metallic creme 3. Chanel pulsion nail lacquer 4. Beauty is Life kim 86 eyeshadow 5. Dior sari pink ultra gloss 6. MAC lovelorn lipstick

The Top Knot

April 30th, 2010

This runway look gained momentum in the Fall and we’re still seeing it for Spring. The top knot comes in many forms, and sizes. I think a medium size undone look is the easiest to replicate and looks the most chic. (It depends on how long and thick your hair is. I like to add extensions for a more dramatic look as seen at Lanvin or on Jennifer Lopez) Here’s how to get the runway look in a few quick steps.

1. Simply brush your hair into a ponytail. Closer to the top of the head looks best.

2. For an undone look, lightly tease the lengths of the ponytail to create some body.

3. Twist the ponytail around the base and secure with pins.

How Can I Make My Makeup Last All Day?

September 18th, 2009

How can I make my makeup last all day?

This is the question that plagues so many women. If your skin is dry this is definitely less of a problem but if you have oily skin then your make up has a tendency to slide. Make sure you start with a good base for your makeup to stick to. My favorite primer is the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. Creme products can also help your makeup go a lot further. Try the YSL water proof cream shadow, the Stila convertible colour for your cheeks and of course some oil absorbing papers to get rid of any extra oiliness and shine.

The Bright 80′s

The Bright 80's

The eighties were about flash and cash in all aspects of life. This time around there isn’t as much cash so going extreme with make up is a less expensive alternative. There is a lot of precision required with these looks so when trying to achieve that Nicole Miller elongated blue eye, brushes are a must. Don’t even attempt the neon lip without a super sharp lip pencil to define the mouth. While overindulgence is the theme of the trend, no need to amp eyes, cheeks, and lips choose your favourite and let it stand out.
